The SOIL Hangout 2025; where soil-mates meet!
We’re delighted to welcome you (back) at The Home at the end of October ’25! Join Koen, Antonella, Stef and other peers from the regeneration space for our Soil Hangout. Connect with fellow soil pioneers through leisurely walks, fireside chats, and unhurried lunches. No rigid conference schedules, just ample time for genuine connections. This retreat is co-hosted by the Pioneers of Our time and the Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food Podcast.
We know most of you probably have a hard time switching off or detaching yourself from your daily regenerative work! That’s why we designed this ‘workation’ for you, with plenty of time to slow down, do inner work, reflect and figure out the next steps. Plus plenty of time to connect to other soil pioneers on long walks, fireplace chats and endless lunches together. No formal full conference program, but a lot of time to really connect.
Where are we gathering? At The Home!
The Home provides a unique and intimate experience for a curated group of individuals who share a passion for nature, personal growth, and impact. An opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals working in and around SOIL, regenerative agriculture and food, healthy forests, watershed regeneration, rewilding, nature restoration, and much more! Share your passions, and deepen your relationship with nature. Make time for the things that are important to you but often neglected in your day-to-day life. Whether it’s writing in your journal, pursuing creative endeavors, or engaging in self-reflection, you’ll have the freedom to prioritize your own needs.
Nature is an integral part of the retreat. You can embark on hikes in the nearby mountains, forests and river. Immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can relax in the forest’s hammocks, have a massage or take a refreshing swim in the infinity pool that overlooks the stunning Muga Valley.
Transport
We advise our guests to use the (high speed) train as much as possible. The nearby Fiqueres-Vilafant train station welcomes high-speed trains directly from Paris (with an easy transfer also from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, Geneva, Zurich, Cologne, Frankfurt etc.) and from all over Spain.
Those flying to Spain can choose from the airports of Girona or Barcelona, from where they can then opt for a high-speed train (AVE) to Figueres-Vilafant. From the stations Girona Central or Barcelona Sants, you can reach Figueres-Vilafant by train in just 25 or 50 minutes. On the day of arrival, we provide a shuttle service from the train station to The Home. Please note: train tickets must be booked in advance through the website: renfe.es
- Arrival day: pick-up at Figueres Vilafant train station at 4pm
- Departure day: drop-off at Figueres Vilafant train station at 11am (arrival at the train station approx 11.45 am)
Program
The program encourages participation and collaboration among the participants. You’ll have the opportunity to co-create the program with fellow change makers, sharing your talents, and offering a session to the group. The retreat fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone’s unique gifts and contributions are valued.
The program features essential components designed for you to engage with at your own pace. We will host four immersive “deep dive” sessions, where we’ll explore topics like soil health and the regeneration of topsoil. Join Koen and Antonella as they discuss the key priorities of regenerative agriculture, a holistic approach that goes beyond organic farming to enhance ecosystem health and improve the nutrient quality of our food turning it into a by-product of our planet’s restoration.
Stef will introduce you to the philosophy and purpose behind The Muga Valley Project, with The Home serving as its vibrant epicenter. He’ll guide you through various current activities in forestry and agriculture, showcasing the journey from idea to practice.
To help you start your day refreshed, we offer morning and silent nature walks. For those interested in wildlife, you can visit our vulture observation post (at an additional fee) to witness these majestic birds up close. We also prioritize mental and physical well-being with a meditative sound bath at the end of the day.
Explore the stunning Muga Valley on a hike up Bassegoda Mountain, the most iconic peak in Alt Empordà. Standing at 1,373 meters, it boasts rich biodiversity, including holm oak, beech, and river forests, making it a cherished spot for hikers.
Every day, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the gardens surrounding The Home, planting seeds and herbs, chopping wood, and creating pathways. Experience the incredible bounty of the land during dinners crafted by our chef. We escape the ordinary restaurant routine and embrace the joy of communal dining with our renowned live cooking together evenings, a highlight of many past events. An experience that goes beyond a meal, where every bite is infused with the spirit of togetherness and celebration.
